*Obituary Evalena Blowey Fisher
Evalena Fisher left the cares of this world on Monday, May 1, 2017. During her time here, she saw many events occur – from the invention of frozen food, to the landing of man on the moon, to now, where we all carry computers around in our purses and pockets. She lost her mother, Laura, when she was a child and then was raised by her father, Albin E. Blowey. Her interest in the nursing profession evolved and following high school she attended and graduated from Breckenridge Hospital at Austin as a Registered Nurse during the years following WWII. She was employed as an R.N. in the Valley after graduation.

The new Big Spring V. A. Hospital was opening in 1950 and the Director held a statewide drive to hire 15 doctors and 52 nurses. Evalena sent in her letter of interest and was immediately hired. She drove out to Big Spring by herself and her federal career began. She was promoted becoming the head surgical nurse in the operating room. She was a professional and dedicated nurse who served her country and many West Texas veterans.

She met Ed Fisher, a local Big Spring young man, who served his country in WWII. He was the love of her life. They married and enjoyed a wonderful life together. During their retirement years they traveled and indulged their love of West Texas and West Texas history. Evalena was interested in her family history and began researching and collecting genealogical information. She thoroughly documented information of her family trees, and on several occasions she and Ed traveled to England to meet and visit with family who lived near Plymouth, U.K. On their first trip to England, she poured through a local phonebook and happily found 12 Blowey’s listed! The family connections she made during those years, continue to this day through her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her cherished nephews and nieces and their families who will miss her, by her dear friends, as well as by her English relatives; the family would like to thank all the care givers who helped Mrs. Fisher.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Big Spring, TX at 12:30 PM.
