William A. "Am" Fitzgerald, 93, of Big Spring, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in an Odessa Hospice facility. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born on May 16, 1917, in Emory, Texas and married Earlie Cope "Coy" Grimes on November 5, 1937 in Stanton. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2001.

Am came to Big Spring as a child with his family and graduated from Big Spring High School. He had worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years, starting as a lineman and was working in the office when he retired.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge where he had served in all offices; was a member of the Eagles Lodge and was past president of the Local Telephone Union. He was involved in the Senior Citizens and was a member of the Senior Citizen Dance Club. He was an Episcopalian.

Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Mason of Midland; two granddaughters, Cynthia Ussery and husband, Tom of Austin and Teresa Price and husband, Renn of Midland; four great grandchildren, Charlie Ussery and wife, Vahista of Grand Prairie, Matt Ussery of Austin, Heather Overmiller and husband, Daren of Midland, and Josh Price of Australia; a great great grandchild, Mason and special friend, Maria Torres of Big Spring.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN.

Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
