Funeral services for Alvin Gary, 90, of Lubbock, formerly of Lamesa will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Crestview Baptist Church with Bro. Charles Empey, Bro. Pat Githens, and Alvin Lynn Gary officiating. Interment will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. He passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Lubbock.

He was born August 17, 1923 in Dublin, TX to James and Mamie Ada (Jones) Gary. Alvin married Juanita Joyce Wilson June 8, 1956 in Levelland; they were married 57 years.

He served in the United States Army during WWII in the Phillipines and New Guinea and was a member of Battery B 211th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.

Alvin was known for playing the harmonica at Crestview Baptist Church where he was a member, and for his delicious peanut brittle. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Gary of Lubbock; children, Pamela Brown and husband, Keith of Georgetown, Stephen Gary and wife, Vicki of Welch, David Gary and wife, Pam of Wolforth, Mark Gary and wife, Jana of Lamesa, Paula Moll and husband, Rusty of Lubbock, Sallie McKenzie and husband, Terry of Lubbock, and Paul Gary and wife, Rebekah of Lubbock; sisters, Oleta Weikel of Pflugerville, and Pauline Terry of Lubbock; brother, Raymond Gary of Big Lake; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Peggy Horner; sisters, Inez Gary, Irene Rice, Mildred Anderson, and Ada Lou Gary; and brothers, J.L. Gary, C.W. Gary, Jim Gary, and Lois Gary.
