DIMMITT - Rachel E. Hunter, 96, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford with the Reverend Clint Young officiating. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Dimmitt by Colonial Funeral Home.
Rachel was born Oct. 4, 1912, in Arney to E.C. and Eva Burks. She graduated from West Texas Norm in Canyon. She taught school for one year in Hart.
She married Addison Hunter on April 12, 1936, in Happy. She lived in the Jumbo Community her entire life.
She was a 4-H leader, she taught Sunday school, she was chosen Cowbell of the Year twice.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dimmitt and of the Arney Community Club. She owned a ranch in New Mexico for 40 years and she loved going there and enjoying her time there.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Addison Hunter; two brothers, Marques and Charles Burks; and two sisters, Edna Fortner and Katie Gaulden.
Survivors include a son, Richard Hunter and wife Sissy of Dimmitt; a daughter, Mona Dell Bishop and husband Jim of Pampa; six grandchildren, Rodney Hunter and wife Sarah of Dimmitt, Charlynn Wilhelm and husband Shawn of Dumas, Sherri Lynn Baker and husband Mike and Trent Oneal and wife Tiffany, all of Amarillo, Monty Scott Oneal and wife Haleigh of San Angelo and Kyle Oneal of Wichita, Kanansas.; 11 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ross and Reagan Hunter, all of Dimmitt, Holly and Emily Wilhelm, both of Dumas, Brylee Baker and Jaden and Jaxton Oneal, all of Amarillo, Kyler Oneal of San Angelo and Sean and Paige Oneal of Wichita; and a host of nieces and nephews.
