Funeral service for Joan Gray Lyles, 86, of Lamesa will be held Monday, December 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Welch Church of Christ with Truman Hayes officiating, assisted by Keith Hayes. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home of Lamesa, TX.

Joan passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022 in San Angelo. She was born December 30, 1935, in Lipan, TX to Roy and Murl (Dyer) Addison. She was a member of the Welch Church of Christ up until the time she moved to San Angelo at which time she became a member of San Angelo Johnson Street Church of Christ.

She graduated from Lamesa High School in 1954 as Valedictorian of her class. She married Bill Gray in 1954 and after his passing in 1983, she later married Chief Lyles in 1992.

In their early years Bill and Joan owned Welch Butane, then went on to farm in the Welch area and later owned the local auto parts and grocery store. She was known as Mimi to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with all of their friends. Joan loved animals and was a very artistic lady who loved to paint, crochet and make crafts. Up until her death she was very competitive in dominos and card games. She will be missed by many.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Melanie Benes and husband Howard of San Angelo, and son, Danny Gray and wife Julie of Welch; brother, Mike Addison and wife Connie of Horseshoe Bay; special in-laws, Movelda Harp of Post, Patsy Erwin of Flippin, Arkansas, Carol Gray Pierce of Odessa and Laveda and Lloyd Gray of Forth Worth; grandchildren, Misty Smith and husband Todd, Chad Nelson and wife Liesel, Trever Gray, Kasha Crisp and husband Al, Brandon Benes, and Rheana Benes; sixteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill Gray in 1983, and her husband Chief Lyles in 1998; and her sister, Donnie Kelley.
