It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our beloved Mom, Dorothy Haney. She passed from this earthly life to her heavenly home on October 8, 2018 in Lamesa, Texas. She went peacefully into the arms of Jesus and was surrounded with family and her amazing care givers of the past three years.

She was born to Ernest And Flora (Childers) Jones in Lamesa, Texas on November 22, 1922. She married Valton Norman Haney in Lamesa on May 25, 1940. They were married 63 years. Dorothy began her life here in Dawson County with Valton Haney as a housewife, and even helped her husband on the farm. Dorothy or Sparkles Plenty, as papaw Haney called her, would work side by side with him and learned the value of hard work. One of her early forays was working at the Sky Vue for Skeet Noret, shortly after she was department manager of Montgomery Ward. She also was employed at Parks/Ford Pharmacy, finally head sale representative for KPET Radio. At KPET, she took the sales award each year and was the motivational speaker at Galen Gilberts sales meetings. In 1976, Dorothy planned the First Annual Dawson County Area Breakfast. "It was a way to bring farmers and community folks together." she said. Dorothy was involved with the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce as a vice president, foreman of the Lamesa Round Up Club and area relations coordinator. One year she won the Nationwide Chamber of Commerce contest by recruiting the most new chamber members in a city.

She was the owner of Vogue Dress Shop and Haney's Happenings both of which were very successful. She retired at the age of 82 from Haney's Happenings. Her philosophy in business was "If you treat people right and give them the services they need they will stay with you."
Dorothy said, "I believe God created us to encourage one another, and I believe everyone has a God given talent if only they choose to use it."

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Mary "Nell" Lindsey and husband, Lee of Fort Worth and Norma Adams and husband, Jerry of Lamesa; grandchildren, Dennis Adams and wife, Kim of Lamesa, Kenny Adams and wife, Leanna of Lubbock, Wes Lindsey and wife, Missy of Fort Worth and Josh Lindsey and wife, Angel of Fort Worth; great grandchildren, Jason Adams, Payton Adams, Courtney Douglas, Kelsye Hughes, Tiffany Lindsey, Lauren Lindsey, Jaden Lindsey and Conner Lindsey; and six great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Valton Haney; son, James Ronald "Ronnie" Haney in November of 1984; and brothers, Cecil Jones and Richard Jones. The family suggests memorials to Church of Nazarene Missions 911 N. 1st, Lamesa, Texas 79331 or Friendship Baptist Church c/o Donna Airhart 1918 County Road "CC", Lamesa, Texas 79331.
