Henry Harrison Haynes, 91, of 1601 Lancaster, a resident of Bennett House since it opened in 1963, died in a hospital here Friday at 4:55 p.m. In failing health for several years, he had been seriously ill for the past month.

For more than 90 years he had been a West Texas resident. He came first to Big Spring 70 years ago.

Mr. Haynes was born in Pontotoc, Miss., June 21, 1873. He came to Texas with his parents when he was three months old. The family settled near Ferris in Ellis County, but in 1887 his father bought a farm in Fisher County, a portion of which is now in the City of Rotan.

He came to Big Spring in 1895 when he was 22 years old, and was employed for a time by a John Birdwell. He later worked in the Texas and Pacific shops and then in the office. He had married Lula Haley June 19, 1898, in Sweetwater, and she died Dec. 8, 1958.

Mr. Haynes went to Hermleigh in 1908 as the second employee of the Roscoe, Snyder and Pacific Railroad. He went to Fluvanna from Hermleigh in 1909, and lived there until his retirement in 1937. He returned to Big Spring in 1942.

He was a member of the Men's Bible Class of the First Methodist Church and of Staked Plains Masonic Lodge No. 598.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Methodist Church with the pastor, Dr. H. Clyde Smith, officiating. Graveside rites, at Trinity Memorial Park, will be conducted by Staked Plains Lodge. Arrangements will be under the direction of River-Welch Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state at River-Welch Funeral Home until 1 p.m. today and then at the First Methodist Church until service time.

Survivors include five sons, A. H. (Haley) Haynes, Big Spring, D. M. Haynes, Riverside, Calif., L. A. Haynes, Roscoe, C. G. Haynes, Rock Springs, Wyo., J. W. Haynes, Gatesville; four daughters, Mrs. A. J. Cain and Mrs. M. F. Hodnett, Big Spring, Mrs. D. W. May, Victoria, Mrs. R. D. Vaughn, Robert Lee; 24 grandchiuldren; 35 great-grandchildren; a brother, J. F. Haynes, Bronte; and a cousin, Jim Deel, Big Spring.

Pallbearers will be grandsons of Mr. Haynes.
