Thomas Franklin Horton, 92, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, in a local nursing home.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM Friday, July 20, 2007 at the Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of Springcreek Fellowship, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born on May 4, 1915, in Big Spring, Texas and married Wortha Marie Dyer on March 6, 1935 in Colorado City, Texas. She preceded him in death on December 23, 2000.

Mr. Horton grew up in Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School.

He had worked as a short order cook and then later worked in the oilfield.

During World War II he worked in the shipyards in Long Beach, California.

Mr. Horton worked for the T&P Railroad for over 35 years, as a fireman, an engineer, a road foreman of engines in the Eastern Division, and then retired as an engineer.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Helen Horton of West Point, Utah, and Bill and Barbara Horton of San Diego, California; six grandchildren, Butch Horton of Salt Lake City, Utah, Terri Feller of Evanston, Wyoming, Tonya Veith of Bloomington, Indiana, Sean Horton of San Diego, California, Marilyn Tate of Sandy, Utah, and Connie Morgan of Syracuse, Utah; 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and two expected; one sister-in-law, Wanda Horton of Big Spring; two special nephews, Jimmy Horton of Big Spring and Joe Adams of Dallas; and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Thomas Horton and Lea Ora Horton.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to Home Hospice of Big Spring for the loving care given to Mr. Horton.

The family suggests memorials be made to Home Hospice of Big Spring, 111 East 7th, Ste. A, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
