*Obituary R. L. Hughey
R.L. Hughey, 82, of Odessa, died on Thursday, October 25, 2001, in an Odessa Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 27, 2001, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Arnold Tonn, minister of Spring Tabernacle Church, officiating.

He was born on October 17, 1919 in Howard County, Texas and married Maxine Jones in September 1949 in Stanton, Texas. R. L., Maxine and their family moved to Anchorage, Alaska from Big Spring in 1967 with AMACO. In 1984 he retired and moved to Show Low, Arizona and then moved to Odessa in 2000. R. L. was a loving husband and father. He was a Christian.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Hughey of Odessa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Arion and Lori Hughey of Phoenix, Arizona and Norman and Sandra Hughey of Odessa; one brother, Donald Hughey of Grandbury; two sisters, Wanda McNew and Kathleen Hughey both of Stephenville; four brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eldon and Marge Jones of Saint Jo, Texas, Weldon and Karen Jones of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Wayne and Patsy Jones of Stephenville, and Jack and Katie Cathey of Big Spring; one sister-in-law, Joyce Striecher of Odessa; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Hughey, one daughter, Sharon Joyce, and three brothers, Reese, Jack and Dean Hughey. Pallbearers will be Ryan Hughey, Bill Jenkins, Wayne Jones, Jack Cathey, Ricky Jones and Nina Hughey. The family will receive friends from 7 PM to 8 PM tonight at the funeral home. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

*Obituary Maxine Jones Hughey
Dorothy Maxine Jones Hughey, 94, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020, in a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Richard Schneburger officiating.

She was born August 3, 1925 in Eastland, Texas to Dave and Maudie (Layfield) Jones.

Maxine married R.L. Hughey September 21, 1950 in Stanton, Texas. He preceded her in death October 25, 2001.

Maxine was known as a true pioneer. In World War II, at the age of 19, she worked at Webb Air Force Base as a Burma Truck Driver that transported soldiers to distant secret locations.

She worked for the family business, “Jones Paving Co.” as a dump truck driver.

Her artist’s side was sewing and painting. She helped make the curtains and bed spreads for the Settles Hotel in Big Spring with her beloved sister, Katie Jones Cathey.

She loved adventures to Alaska and Hawaii for many years.

Her love for family would bring her back to Big Spring as a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt and grandmother.

Maxine loved to laugh and with a lot of sassy style!!!

Survivors include a son, Arion Hughey of Alaska; and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Hughey of Big Spring; six grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Matthew, Mark, Ryan and Nina; six great-grandsons; a sister, Joyce Streicher of San Marcos; one brother, Wayne Jones; a sister-in-law, Patsy Jones; 14 nieces and nephews, Ricky Jones, Terry Jones, Dianna Thorpe, Jerry Thompson, Ronnie Jones, Peggy Lou Jones, Cool Ann Brewster, Cali Springfield, Davy Jones, Robbie Jones,Eldon Jones, Jack Cathey, Jr., Linda Riley, and Kim Rath; and many great nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharon; a son, Norman, two brothers, Eldon Jones and Weldon Jones; and a sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Jack Cathey.
