*Obituary Donna Sue Spurgeon Kennedy
Donna Kennedy, 83, of Big Spring, lovingly known as MiMi by her grandchildren, peacefully took her last breath on June 5, 2021 and went to be with our Lord.

Family visitation will be at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 9, 2021, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be at Midway Baptist Church on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at 10:00 AM. Interment will be immediately following the services in Big Spring with a graveside service for family and friends at Trinity Memorial Park.

Donna was the youngest daughter of Sam Wylie Spurgeon and Jo Ellen Spurgeon of Oklahoma.

She was born at home on January 12, 1938 in rural Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.

She married the love of her life, Leon Kennedy on June 10, 1956.

They put down roots in West Texas in early 1961 where they proceeded to raise their two children Russell Leon Kennedy and Regina Lynne Kennedy.

Donna was the beloved matriarch of her family.

Celebrating the holidays together at MiMi and PaPaw's house was a favorite staple for the family. The wonderful memories of spending time with the family, eating good food, and playing games until well into the evening are some of the brightest family moments. MiMi always had a camera in hand to record special family moments because she always said that we would want to have the joy of looking through those goofy, precious, and heartwarming memories later in life.

She was always someone that her family and church friends could count on. She was a very active member of Midway Baptist Church providing support and service, which was her gift of the Spirit.

She loved to garden and was a member of Master Gardners winning several awards for her services to the Big Spring community in pursuit of her dream to make the world a more beautiful place. Her family can tell you for certain she never met a flower she did not like. As such, it was not an unusual sight to see her working in the flowerbeds at her home, or even at Midway Baptist Church, on any given day.

She is survived by one son, Russell Leon Kennedy; one daughter, Regina Lynne Warren and husband, Charles Michael Warren of Big Spring; grandchildren, Leslie Renee Kennedy of Big Spring, Alexandria Jordan Newsom of Eugene, OR, Rachel Lynn Kennedy of Big Spring, and Regan Michelle Newsom of Irving; one special great granddaughter, Charlotte Kaylynn Kennedy of Big Spring; one surviving sister, Betty Ann Hale and husband, Jim Hale of Jenks, OK, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Henry Johns of Nowara, OK, Ralph Lynn Kennedy and wife, Sandra Kennedy of Austin, and Patsy Marie Clark of Odessa; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Her loved ones who preceded her in death are her mother, Jo Spurgeon; her father, Sam Spurgeon; husband of 56 years, Leon Kennedy; her oldest sister, Wanda Johns; brother-in-law, Gary Clark, and her grandson, Ryan Kennedy.

MiMi's joyful life in heaven has only just begun as she is now planting in the gardens of heaven and breathing in all the lovely scents of paradise.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com
