Funeral services for Myrle Evelyn Matthies, 86, Big Spring, Texas, will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 28, 2017 at Myers & Smith Funeral Home, 301 E. 24th Street, Big Spring, Texas with Pastor Don Snipes, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
Myrle Evelyn (Platte) Matthies was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on the 23rd day of July, 2017 at the Shattuck Nursing home in Shattuck, Oklahoma.
Born in Muleshoe, Texas on September 12, 1930, she was the daughter of Samuel Rufus Atchison and Stella Lee (Leddy) Atchison and was preceded in death by her husband Burt Matthies; grandsons: Karl and Kevin Platte; six brothers and four sisters.
Myrle is survived by her seven children: Karen Jones of San Angelo, Texas; Larry Platte of Big Spring, Texas; Janice Allman of Stark City, Missouri; Kenny Platte of Shattuck, Oklahoma; Roy Platte of Big Spring, Texas; Clifton Platte of Midland, Texas; and Bobby Platte of Pflugerville, Texas. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Myrle successfully worked for and managed a 7-11 store for Southland Corporation in Big Spring for twenty years.
After retirement, she moved to San Angelo, Texas; then to Phoenix, Arizona; and finally to Shattuck, Oklahoma.
She will be remembered as one "feisty" little lady as she faced life's ups and downs.
More than anything, she loved the Lord, and her family knew that she loved them with a passion. She sacrificed much and gave much to raise her children alone. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
