Dwight B. McCann, 67, 510 Goliad, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 1987 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Myers & Smith Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Gary Clements, pastor of East Fourth Street Baptist Church, officiating. Masonic Graveside Rites by Staked Plains Lodge 598 AF & AM will be conducted at Trinity Memorial Park, under the direction of Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

He was born July 14, 1920 in Cisco. He married Gertrude McNew on May 4, 1946 in Big Spring.

He came to Howard County in 1929 and resided in Coahoma and later moving to Big Spring. He was a member of East Fourth Street Baptist Church.

He was a member of Staked Plains Lodge 598 AF & AM, a life-member of Disabled American Veterans, past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Knights of Pythians, and Mighty Oaks.

He also was a life-member of Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers Association, and past president of Elementary Parents and Teachers Association.

He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the United States Army Air Corp in the South Pacific.

He was employed by Cosden Oil & Chemical Co. for 33 years retiring in February 1982. He was served as president of the Howard-Glasscock Old Settler's Reunion for 12 years.

This year's Old Settler's Reunion was dedicated to his memory.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude of Big Spring; one son, Coy Joe of Big Spring; one sister, Gladys Rhea of Graham; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death one brother, T.H. McCann; and one sister, Pearl McCann.
