*Obituary Jessie Clyde McMahon, Jr.
The heavens just got a little rowdier as Jessie Clyde McMahon Jr, or otherwise known out here in West Texas, as Jr., Clydie or Sweetie, crossed over to the other side on January 28, 2022. It seems very fitting that his sons, Craig and Cavan, were notified that their dad had made a downward turn while they were sitting at a Blackjack table out in Las Vegas "breaking even" as they say.

A lifetime resident of Big Spring, Jessie Clyde McMahon Jr., 84 was born on December 5, 1937.

He was preceded in death by a brother Harold Cecil McMahon, his parents Bonnie Lee & Jessie Clyde McMahon, Sr. and wife Beverly Ann McMahon.

Clyde attended Big Spring Schools and after graduation he went on to receive his Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Texas at Austin in June of 1961. He then moved back to Big Spring and eventually spent most of his time as President of Clyde McMahon Concrete Company or sneaking off to Martha's Hideaway.

Clyde married Carol Ann Letcher in the 60's and the stories of their marriage consisted of late nights at the Tiki Room at the Big Spring County Club with Jerry Spence, Rendall Hamby, Jim Mathews, followed by even later nights at their house, next to Verna and Don, on Marcy Street dancing the night away! Fundraisers and galas and everything in-between kept the young couple busy. Two sons, Craig Stephen and Jay Cavan were created out of this union and in the end, Clyde and Carol knew this was their finest achievements.

Clyde later married Beverly Ann Franklin, master of the house and keeper of the zoo, and they took frequent trips to old Mexico with Bev's sisters and the Cole's, Ruidoso hanging with Kathy, and to some beach somewhere or wherever the wind might blow. He had a love for flying and would jump in the Bonanza V-tail head to the nearest border. Travel was a pass time they both enjoyed where they met no stranger. The party continued up until Beverly's passing in 2015, and it was only then that the lights began too dim.

Weekly lunches at the Spanish Inn with Jimmy Taylor, Lefty Reynolds, and Jim Parks, discussing the latest town scandal, or devising a new economic ploy to better the community of Big Spring were not to be missed. And an occasional pop-in to the Methodist Church, back row, to drop off a check for future insurance was good business. Happy hours with Ricky, Terry, Max and whoever could keep up, like Stacy Barr and Elrod-Hobbs, was always a given.

Keenly aware of the needs of his community, Clyde had the know-how to get things done. He served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, was instrumental in the revitalization of the Dora Robert Community Center, served on the First National Bank Board of Directors, was active on the Moore Development Board, just to name a few. He was honored as the Man of the Year in 1990 for his countless hours of volunteer service on various civic and community duties.

And Clyde had a posse like no other; even a dog was named after him affectionally by Jessica Lezlee Hamby blah blah, at the ripe age of 12, "I'm gonna name my dog, CLYDE JR!" His love was broad and wide, as he had friends of all ages. And what Grandad invites his 21 yr. old granddaughter to Ruidoso for a weekend to gamble at the Truck Stop and a big steak dinner at the Texas Club? Clyde does.

He was overly proud of his sons, their families, and their accomplishments. Craig and Molly, and their children Ryan, Rachel and Hannah of San Antonio; Cavan and Donna and their children Carly John and Kate Jewel of Fredericksburg. Carly & Kate established a lifetime and heartfelt relationship with Clyde. They shared lots of laughter and loved their "Papa Clyde" or "Old Man" always making him try new things like, Hibachi Express, which he proclaimed, "I
HATE IT"!

Clyde leaves behind many wonderful lifelong friends, especially named Honorable Pallbearers: Ricky Hamby, Lanny Hamby, Lorin McDowell, III, Jimmy Taylor, Jim Parks, Roger Brown, Terry McDaniel, Bob Moore, and Max Moore. Pallbearers include Dale Brown, Lorin "Mac" McDowell, IV., Doug Horton, Pate Denton, Alex Childress, Nick Williams and Garry Spence.

The family would especially like to thank the entire staff at Parkview Nursing Home, Home Hospice of Big Spring, Dr. Manish Shroff, MD, and Scenic Mountain Medical for all their compassion and care.

Obviously, there are many friends that were not called out, but it would take up the entire Big Spring Herald to name them all.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you continue with your good works and support your causes, and when you think of Clyde; remember he lived a big life and each of you were an important and instrumental part of it!

Graveside service will be held at Trinity Memorial Park at 2:30pm on Saturday, February, 5 2022.
