Velma McMinn, 95, of Vincent, died on Thursday, March 20, 2003, in a Stanton nursing home.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, March 24, 2003, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home with Rev. David Harp, pastor of First Baptist Church of Stanton, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born on December 13, 1907 in Comanche County, Texas.
Mrs. McMinn moved from Comanche County to Polar, Texas and then to Vincent. There she met Nathan E. McMinn and they married on September 11, 1933 in Big Spring. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1951.
They lived in the Vincent Community near Coahoma and she remained on the farm and ranch for almost 65 years.
Velma loved the outdoors, working in the fields and gardening.
She also loved making quilts, especially for her grandchildren.
She was a member of Vincent Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Natha and Wayne Mitchell of Stanton; two granddaughters and their husbands, Natalie and Mike Trampe of Sheridan, Wyoming and Valerie and Jim Smith of Stanton; five great grandchildren, Savanah and Sean Smith of Stanton and Micah, Nathan and Matai Trampe of Sheridan, Wyoming; a sister, Lola Tarbet of Las Cruces, New Mexico and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Nat McMinn; three sisters, Viola Mitchell, Oleta Burney and Idell Mathews; four brothers, Henry Mitchell, Bill Mitchell, Aubrey Mitchell and Jim Mitchell and her parents, Samuel Daniel and Bertha Mitchell.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Midland, 911 West Texas, Midland, Texas 79702 or a favorite charity.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
