Elvira A. Olivas, 81, of Big Spring, died Wednesday November 27, 2013 at her residence. Vigil service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday at Myers& Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with MSGR Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

She was born to Maria and Jose Alvarez March 8, 1932 in Knott, Texas. She was a lifetime resident of Howard County.

She married Federico M. Olivas November 21, 1952. He preceded her in death December 23, 1994. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was devoted to the daily rosary and Bible study. She worked for Dr. Virgil and Dr. Neil Sanders for over 40 years. She loved gardening, crocheting and knitting.

Mrs. Olivas is survived by four children: Mary Anguiano and Jesse Perez of Big Spring, Irene Dominguez and husband John of Sand Springs, Edward A. Olivas and wife Linda of Big Spring and Sylvia Dominguez also of Big Spring; ten grandchildren: Leticia Rodriguez, Gabriel Hernandez, Cynthia Rodriguez all of Big Spring, Joni Maitra of Cary, North Carolina, Leslie Rodriguez of San Angelo, Chris Dominguez of Sand Springs, Vanessa Olivas of Big Spring, Edward "Eddie" Olivas, Jr., of Brownwood, Jessica Rojo of Coahoma and Mandi Dominguez of Big Spring; eight great grandchildren: Javier Rodriguez, Gabriel Elijah Hernandez, Leela Maitra, Ryan Maitra, Emalyn Olivas, Tyler Olivas, Kirsten Rojo and Mathew Rojo; two sisters: Mary "Chagua" Sanchez of San Angelo and Juanita Gutierrez of Odessa and one special sister-in-law Rosa Alvarez of Midland.

In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by two sons: Fred Olivas Jr. and Juan Manuel Olivas; three brothers: Ramon Alvarez, Roberto Alvarez and Jesus Alvarez; two sisters: Manuela Duran and Mercedes Alvarez and two great grandchildren: Emmalicia and Esavella Olivas.

A sincere thank you to all our family, friends, and Hospice who showed us their love and support during our mothers illness. All of your kind acts, words of support and comfort, and prayers are greatly appreciated. A special thank you to Katy Olivas for helping us care for our mother during her illness. Also, we would like to thank MSGR Bernard L. Gully and Wanda Anderson for always being willing to stop by and pray with and for our mother.

Pallbearers will be Joel Rojo, Eddie Olivas, Gabriel Hernandez, Jesse Rodriguez, Chris Dominguez and Nicholas DeHoyos. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mrs. Olivas' nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
