Janet Wheat Francis passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024 surrounded by family and friends at the age of 83. Janet was born in Houston, Texas on October 27, 1940, to Gladys McCulloch Wheat and John Veale Wheat.

Janet attended the University of Texas and was a member of Tri Delta sorority before graduating from the University of Houston. Janet married Sidney J. Francis, II in 1978 and was happily married for 45 years.

Janet loved her life in San Antonio where she was active at the McNay Art Museum, Southwest School of Art and the Conservation Society of San Antonio for whom she served as president. She was also a founding member of Preservation Texas, serving as president in 1997. Janet was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America for the State of Texas and Christ Episcopal Church of San Antonio.

Janet was predeceased by her husband Sidney J. Francis II, her parents, and her younger brother John W. Wheat. She is survived by her brother Joe F. Wheat of Houston, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church of San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the San Antonio Conservation Society or the charity of your choice.
