Cecil Phillips, 85, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in Glasscock County. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, June 16, 2000, at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Dudley Mullins, pastor of East Fourth Street Baptist Church, officiating.
He was born on March 14, 1915 in Westbrook, Texas and married Imogene Barnett on September 15, 1940 in Big Spring, Texas.
Mr. Phillips came to Howard County in 1916 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley Phillips, a Howard County pioneer family.
He graduated from Big Spring High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon.
He had farmed and ranched all his life in Howard and Glasscock Counties.
He was a member of East Fourth Street Baptist Church and was a Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Phillips, of Big Spring; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Carol Phillips of Garden City; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janie and Rayford Harrison of Big Spring, Joann and Preston Hollis of Canyon and Joyce Hamlin of Big Spring; one brother, Edgar Phillips of Big Spring; 13 grandchildren, Phillip, Melissa, Wesley, Heath, Sarah and Micah Harrison, Lila King, Kevin and Duncan Hamlin, Dwayne and Delbert Hollis, Jason Phillips and Jenny Carr; and 3 great grandchildren.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; 7 brothers, Tom, Earl, Elra, Roy, Johnnie, Ted and Ray Phillips and 3 sisters, Arah Phillips, Cordelia Castle and Kathryn Thomas.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family suggests memorials to: Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas 79174-0001 or to a favorite charity.
Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
