Donald Mack Richardson, 81, of Wichita Falls, formerly of Big Spring died Friday, January 15, 2016 after a long battle with liver and renal disease.
He was born on March 22, 1934 in Big Spring to Cecil and Sara Richardson. He was the youngest of 3 brothers. He moved to Wichita Falls in 1997.
His church memberships included 30 years at College Baptist Church in Big Spring and 18 years at Lamar Baptist in Wichita Falls.
He graduated in 1953 from Big Spring High School, where he played Tennis and Football. He held the school record for the most extra points in one game (6), and was called “golden toe” Richardson. He attended Arlington State in the ROTC program and Howard County Junior College.
Donald started work at the Empire Southern Gas Company in 1956. The company changed names 3 times before he retired in 1994. He was the last Energas Employee before the company became Atmos Energy.
In his early years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as an Eagle Scout. Hobbies included gardening, square dancing, mentoring elementary school children, as well as tutoring ESOL at Lamar Baptist, and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cecil, Jr. and Nathan
He was married to Myrna Thomas for 58 years.
He is survived by his wife and three children: Valerie and husband Dale Martin of Grapevine. David and wife Shelia Richardson of Big Spring, and Vanessa Richardson of Wichita Falls: Four grandchildren: William and Jonathan Richardson of Big Spring, Taylor Showalter of Irving, and Madison Showalter of Wichita Falls; Nephews: Charles of San Antonio, Daryl of Big Spring, Kary of Brownsville; and several great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Tuesday at Myers and Smith Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Wichita Falls, PO Box 4804, Wichita Falls, TX 76308.
