*Obituary
Barbara Russell, 81, of Big Spring, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 2, 2013 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Ken McMeans, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 1, 2013, at the funeral home.
Barbara was born September 3, 1931, in Dunn, Texas. She married E. J. Russell July 30, 1949 just after her graduation with Honors from Snyder High School where she was an All-District Basketball player. She raised three wonderful children and then began working for Sears as a sales clerk. That lasted for 20 years. She loved playing Bridge and became a Bronze Life Master. She also loved the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a member of College Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, E. J. Russell of Big Spring; one son, Steve Russell and wife, Judy of Ft. Worth; six grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Galeda Smith Riggs; two daughters, Diane Russell and Carolyn Moore; three infant siblings and one brother, Ira T. Riggs, Jr.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Carolyn Brooks, P.O. Box 2121, Big Spring, Texas 79721-2121.
