Ruth Thomas Salisbury, 92, of Midland, Texas died on May 24, 2014. Interment will be Tuesday, May 27 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. A Memorial Service will be held at Memorial Christian Church in Midland at 1:00 PM Tuesday with Rev. Dr. Suzanne Castle officiating.

Ruth was born on July 28, 1921 in Big Spring, Texas.

She married Howard (Skeeter) Salisbury of North Ridgefield, Ohio on June 7, 1944. He preceded her in death in March, 1999.

Ruth was one of nine children of Clyde E. Sr., and Rebecca E. Thomas.

She graduated from Big Spring High School and from Texas Women's College in Denton, Texas, where she earned her teaching degree.

After her marriage, Ruth and her husband moved to Fort Stockton, Texas, where she taught English and reading at Fort Stockton Junior High for many years. After moving back to Big Spring later in life, she taught English and Spanish at Goliad Jr. High before her retirement.

Ruth was a member of the First Methodist Church in Fort Stockton and later a member of the First Methodist Church of Big Spring.

She was a volunteer coordinator for the Cancer Society in Big Spring, and spent many years driving patients to treatment in Midland.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Anne and Brian Gilley of Midland, Betty and Dan Kithcart of Keller, Texas, Tom and Susan Salisbury of Walnut Creek, California, and Kay and Steve Castle of Midland. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Natalie Gilley, Karen Kithcart, Becky Gomez, Tim Russell, Amanda Salisbury, Suzanne Castle and Andy Castle; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was also preceded in death by her grandson David Castle and her five brothers and three sisters.

The family would like to express their thanks to the many nurses and aides that cared for Ruth during her stay at Manor Park. She was always treated with love and dignity.

If desired, the family requests memorials to be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Midland or to the Vogel Unit or Younger Unit at Manor Park.
