Maria Luisa Zavala, 52, of Big Spring, died Monday June 16, 2014 at Midland Memorial Hospital.
A prayer service will be 7:00 PM Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Pastor Reynaldo Bennett of Lighthouse Restoration Church officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born to Matilde and Jose Martinez August 25, 1961 in Tierra Blanca, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
She has been in community since age 11.
She married Antonio "Tony" Zavala-Martinez on October 21, 1984 in Lamesa.
She was a member of Light House Restoration Church.
She loved being with kids and reading her Bible.
She taught for Big Spring Independent School District at Goliad and Marcy schools.
She is survived by two daughters: Marissa Zavala of Big Spring, Adriela Zavala of Big Spring; one sister: Julia Martinez Hernandez and husband Pedro of San Luis; three brothers: Jesus Martinez and wife Maria Guadalupe of Dallas, Fidel Martinez and wife Maria of Knott, Luciano Martinez of San Luis and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Tony in December 2013, two sisters: Maria Reyes Martinez, Natalia Martinez Puente; three brothers: Ventura Martinez, Asencion Martinez and Salvador Martinez.
Those serving as pallbearers are Jesus G. Martinez, Fidel Martinez, Jose Luis Martinez, Jesus Salvador Martinez, Jesus Emmanuel Martinez and Ruben Reyes.
