memorial service for Effie Murlene Williams, age 94, a longtime resident of Ackerly, Texas, will be held in the chapel at Trinity Memorial Cemetery, Big Spring, Texas at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Family visitation will be in Lubbock at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd, Lubbock, Texas, Friday, Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Murlene Cave was born Sept. 1, 1921, in East Texas. The Cave Family moved to Flower Grove, Texas, where she and six siblings were raised on a cotton farm. In 1937, she married Covie Williams who went to heaven January 2001. They farmed in the Flower Grove community until 1950 when they moved to Ackerly where they still have family farms. They were longtime members of First Baptist Church of Ackerly.

Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Chapman of Lamesa, (preceded in death by husband, Leroy Chapman); Dorothy Harry of Lubbock, (preceded in death by husband, Ancel Harry); Shirley Kountz and husband, Van, Lubbock, Texas. She has four grandchildren; Sheryl Callaway, Lubbock, Texas; Steve Harry and wife, Jennifer, McKinney, Texas; Debra Leonard and husband, Russell, Artesia, N.M.; Sandra McCorkle and husband, Russell, of Keller, Texas.

She has seven great-grandchildren: Zach Harry, McKinney; Rhea Lynn Kaufman and Kyle, Artesia, N.M.; Ashley Roche and Matt, Oklahoma City; Weston Leonard, Artesia, N.M.; Ryan Pease, Lubbock, Texas; Amy Waggoner and husband, Nolan, Abilene, Texas; and Austin McCorkle, Keller, Texas. She is also survived by a sister, Francis Jones, a brother, Jack Cave, and many nieces and nephews that "Aunt Murlene" loved dearly!

Murlene worked with Covie on the farms and they enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the lake! She was very active in church, school and community. She enjoyed the "Quilting Ladies" at church and helped make quilts for charities throughout the years.

She and Covie volunteered 30 years at Big Spring State Hospital, opening the Chalet Resale Shop and helping it become successful. She served on the board, received several state awards and was honored at the state banquet.
The family sends a big "thank you" to the excellent caregivers at Wilshire Place and Interim Hospice of Lubbock for their excellent loving care for Merlie and her family.

In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to Interim Hospice of Lubbock, TX.
