Mr. James Ed Wilkerson, 87, of Big Spring, Texas and Norman, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in Norman, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Nalley-Pickle Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
Mr. Wilkerson was born on August 5, 1923 in Paris, Texas to Clem and Cora Wilkerson before the family settled in Big Spring. The family moved to Big Spring in 1929, where he attended public schools.
Ed enlisted in the United States Army on January 25, 1943 along with his twin brother, Fred. He served in the United States Army under General Patton. Ed was present when General Patton's army liberated Pizon in May of 1945. Ed was very proud of his service to the United States during World War II. He was discharged on February 1, 1946.
Returning home, he married Miss Doris Elizabeth Stroud on June 15, 1946.
Ed and his wife, Doris, were members of the First Assembly of God in Big Spring for over 60 years. He loved to sing and lead the singing for Wednesday night services.
He was also a passionate golfer, carrying a 6 handicap for most of his golfing years.
He is survived by his son, James "Bo" Wilkerson, Jr. and wife, Linda of Norman, Arkansas; a grandson, Allen Cureton and wife, Sara of Black Springs, Arkansas; a granddaughter, Tara and husband Sheriff David White of Story, Arkansas; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Veda White of Dickison, Texas and Juanita Bryant of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Doris, his beloved wife of 60 years; his parents; three sisters Agnes, Dorothy, and Opal; and three brothers Tutor, Herman and twin brother Fred.

Doris Wilkerson, 78, of Big Spring, died on Friday, December 29, 2006, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. R. T. Havener and Everett Bender, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born on December 8, 1928, in Ardmore, Oklahoma and married Ed Wilkerson on June 15, 1946 in Big Spring.
Doris came to Big Spring as a small child with her parents, Price and Ola Stroud and her family. She grew up in Big Spring and graduated from Forsan High School in 1946. Doris worked as an interior decorator for many years. She lived in Liberty, Texas for 23 years and returned to Big Spring in 1995. She was a member of First Assembly of God where she was always involved in whatever needed to be done at the church. She will be missed very much.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Wilkerson of Big Spring; one son, James E. "Bo" Wilkerson of Norman, Arkansas; grandchildren, Allen Cureton and wife, Sara of Black Springs, Arkansas and Tara White and husband, David of Story, Arkansas; great grandchildren; Drew and M. J. Cureton of Black Springs, Arkansas and Caleb White of Story, Arkansas; brother & sister-in-law, Larry & Janie Stroud of Midland and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family suggests memorials to First Assembly of God, 310 W. 4th Street, Big Spring, TX 79720 or to Arkansas Hospice, 1307 Central, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71901.
