Jane Brandon Hofmann Hoerster, 92, died on August 11th at Hill Country Healthcare Center in Llano, Texas. She was born to Otto Ernest and Della Mae Hofmann in Grit, Texas on June 9, 1922. Jane was the third of four daughters, The Hofmann Girls: Della Louise, Mary Maude, Jane Brandon, and Gloria Faye.
On May 11, 1941, Jane married a local rancher, Franklin Roy Hoerster. The two moved to Franklin’s family ranch, The Home Place, which was out the Fredericksburg highway. There, Franklin and Jane raised three children: David Otto, Martha Jane, and Charles Franklin.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Jane had a career and interests of her own. In November 1966, Jane was elected as Mason County Treasurer and took office in January 1967. She was a member of the County Treasurer Association of Texas and served the organization well during her time. In 1993, Jane was honored by the association and received the Texas County Treasurer of the Year Award. She held the office for 28 years.
Jane had a great passion for history and for its preservation. She was appointed by the Commissioners Court to the Historical Commission and served there for many years. She was also a volunteer for The Hill Country Community Action Board and was involved in the preservation of the Odeon Theater. In later years, Jane assisted the Historical Commission and the State of Texas in recognizing the Texas Rangers of Mason County. If Jane wasn’t at home, you could find her in her office at M. Bevin Eckert Mason County Library in the Historical Commission’s archives reliving past days with others who were searching for their roots.
Jane is being welcomed to her heavenly home by her parents, her husband, Franklin, and her sisters and their husbands: Della and Hilton Moneyhon, Mary Maude and Norris McMillan, and Gloria and Victor Lehmberg.
