D. A. Thurman, 95, of Colorado City, formerly of Big Spring died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in a Colorado City nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Dr. Jerry Sheilds officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
He was born November 30, 1918 in Sulphur Springs, Texas and married Ella Mae Carpenter September 26, 1939 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He moved to Colorado City in 1950 and then to Big Spring in 1952. He worked as an electrician for Caldwell Electric for over 34 years. In 2007 he moved back to Colorado City. D. A. had been a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring and was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Colorado City. He was a member of Staked Plains Lodge 598 A. F. & A. M and was a longtime member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Thurman of Colorado City; a daughter, Shirley McPhaul of Colorado City; a son, Jerry Thurman and wife, Medena of Dallas; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents; one son, Donnie Thurman; one brother; and three sisters. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 641, Colorado City, Texas 79512 or to Valley Fair Nursing Home, 1541 Chestnut St., Colorado City, Texas 79512.

Ella Mae Thurman, 90, of Colorado City, formerly of Big Spring, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in a Colorado City nursing home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 27, 2015 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Dr. Jerry Shields, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
She was born December 9, 1924 in Hopkins County, Texas and married D. A. Thurman September 26, 1939 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He preceded her in death July 1, 2014.
She was devoted to her family, was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Colorado City.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley McPhaul of Colorado City; a son, Jerry Thurman and wife, Medena, of Dallas; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donnie Thurman; and three sisters, Betty Harris, Della Faye Gilbert and Juanita Butler.
The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 641, Colorado City, Texas 79512.
