*Obituary Edna Faye Rutledge Smith
Edna Faye Rutledge Smith, 97, a long-time resident of Big Spring, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at her residence. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at First Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Lindsey officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church foyer. A private burial service will be held at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.

Edna Faye was born October 23, 1914, in Lampasas, Texas to Homer and Nora Rutledge. After graduating from Abilene High School she married Jack Y. Smith on October 14, 1932, in Walters, Oklahoma. Soon after marrying they moved to Big Spring.

In early Big Spring life, Edna Faye had several lead rolls in Lion Club plays. She was a charter member of the Woman's Forum, and at her death, she was the oldest member and longest resident member of First Baptist Church. For a number of years she taught a young married Sunday School Class and later was a member of the Questers Sunday School Class. For many, many of those years she hosted the annual Sunday School class Christmas Party at her home.

The women who were in her weekly bridge group were a special part of her life. The conversations, bridge-chatter, and fellowship were much more important than the score.

Edna Faye wrote poetry and short devotionals for many years of her life. Her book, A Legacy of Faith from Mother to Daughter was published when she was ninety-five.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she was loved, admired, and respected by all who knew her.

Survivors include one son, Steve Smith of Big Spring; one daughter, Jacqueline McKnight and husband, Louis of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Mark McKnight and wife, Lisa and Melody Westlake and husband, Ted of Amarillo, and Megan Teal and husband, Glen of Lubbock; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Ruth Fesmire.

Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring. Online condolences can be made at: www.npwelch.com
