Loretta Lee Blissett Jackson of Fort Worth passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, September 8th, at the age of 82.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents Thomas Jefferson Blissett and Addie Lee Hudson, brothers R.L. Blissett and Tommy Dale Blissett, sisters Edna Elizabeth Cargill, Lou Mittie Blissett, Mary Jo Swartwood, and by loving husband of 43 years, Jimmie Jackson. Loretta is survived by sisters-in-law Francis Blissett, Yvonne Blissett, Jackie Jackson; and by children Terry Traffanstedt, Tracy Carlson, Jessica Wesley, William Kopp and wife Kristen, Greg Jackson, and Stephen Cantrell. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

Loretta was born in Brownwood, Texas on May 27, 1940. She loved music and dancing from an early age, going to the movies, spending time with her loving grandmother Lizzie, and trying to keep up with her big brother Tommy, whom she adored. Her big sisters taught her the latest fashion and dance trends. Her father facilitated her thirst for knowledge, and her mother taught her perseverance.

She worked many odd jobs to put food on the table before she went to nursing school in her early forties, which began a great career and brought about the stability she had always yearned for. As a Registered Obstetrical Nurse, she taught many young mothers how to care for their newborn infants. Her nurturing demeanor and patience was reflected in her bedside manner, and through out the years she would be thanked by strangers who had been her patients years earlier.

Loretta was an eternal optimist. She showed her love through her incredible southern cooking. She was petite in stature but stronger than most in spirit. She brought self deprecating wit and infectious laughter to her friends and family. Her biggest joy was sitting with her kids, drinking wine, and singing her favorite sad country songs while playing rhythm guitar. She will be so very missed by those who were lucky enough to know her.

A private celebration of life will be held by immediate family in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Loretta’s name to vitascommunityconnections.org
