1931 - 2006
*Obituary
Adam Walter Cywar was born in Kearny, New Jersey on March 14, 1937 and died in Austin, Texas on June 25, 2022. He was 85 years old. He was the only son to second generation Polish immigrants, Adam and Sophie Cywar (nee Kurak) and the little brother to his only sibling, Martha McSherry, predeceasing him in August, 2015.
He started his career at Colgate Palmolive and Lionel Trains and ultimately retired from IBM (Boca Raton, FL) in 1993 after 30 years of service. Prior to his retirement from IBM, he pioneered the establishment of Activity Based Management (ABM) concepts. He subsequently ran a consulting business focused on ABM. His career brought extensive travel as well as moves from New York to Texas and Florida and ultimately back to Texas.
He leaves behind his three children, Victoria, Douglas and Sophia; five grandchildren, Erica, Adam, Gino, Robin and Maria; niece Norma Tortorello (nee McSherry) and her family. Our family was very lucky and blessed by Adam as a father, grandfather, uncle, friend, character… and mentor. He was truly a fine example, in Tom Brokaw's words, of the greatest generation. To say he will be greatly missed, is an understatement.
After a lengthy battle with kidney cancer and more recent setbacks, he is at peace.
