Jack M. Rather Jack M. Rather, 80, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2007. Jack was born in San Antonio, TX on October 3, 1927 and moved to Austin in 1929. Always ready for adventure, Jack and his best friend and wife, Lee, enjoyed golfing, fishing, trips to Las Vegas and numerous activities with their friends and family. Jack retired as a building contractor and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Houston during World War II. Jack and Lee got a new lease on life 23 years ago when Jack received a kidney transplant. Jack and his family have always been so grateful to the Kidney Foundation, Jack's donor, and the many doctors who supported and cared for him through the years. Jack is survived by his wife of 35 years, Leonie "Lee" Rather, his daughters, Vicki Szukalla, Donna Havins and husband, Stanley; grandchildren, Heather Gatlin and husband, Shayne, Robert and Richard Havins; sisters, Florence Fisher and husband Edward, Adrienne Renick and Dorothy DeGarcia and sister-in-law, Margaret Rather. A Celebration of Jack's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Februaryt 28, 2007 at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 1919 Oakwell Farms Pkwy., Ste. 135, San Antonio, Texas 78218 or www.kidneytx.org.

*When Jack Milnor / Milner Rather was born on October 3, 1926, in Texas, his father, Allen, was 40 and his mother, Pauline, was 35. He married Shirley Jean Hickman (Rather) on July 29, 1949, in Travis, Texas. He then married on November 12, 1971, in Bexar, Texas. He died on February 25, 2007, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 80, and was buried in Pflugerville, Texas.
