Ben C. Nardone, age 97 of Austin, passed away Nov. 9, 2015.
Ben C. Nardone was a sailor, soldier, husband, father and grandfather. Ben was a friend to everyone who knew him. He was generous and kind. Ben was born in Gaeta, Italy and came to the U.S. with the Italian Merchant Marines just before his 19th birthday. He met and married the one and only true love of his life, Mimi, and they brought two beautiful girls into this world; Cynthia and Pat. Ben was drafted by the U.S. Army in World War II and lost his leg in the Pacific protecting our freedom. He received commendations including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Ben returned home to raise his family and pursue a career designing fuel intake systems for General Motors. He moved to Austin in 1981. He loved music, gardening, bowling, playing bridge and doing needlepoint. He also loved the opera and had a beautiful tenor voice; performing in church choirs and various operas. He is survived by Cynthia and her husband, Carl; Pat and her husband, Parrish, and grandchildren Mia, Laura, Christine and Cosmo.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, November 23rd, Renaissance Retirement Home, 11279 Taylor Draper Lane, Austin, Texas 78759.
*When Carmela Erasamina/Mimi Stefanello-Nardone was born on January 24, 1919, in Rochester, New York, her father, Erasmo/Raymond, was 45, and her mother, Elizabeth, was 36. She had two daughters with Benedetto Cosmo Nardone. She died on December 6, 2009, at the age of 90.
