Mary King Don was born June 22, 1916, in Gary Indiana, of immigrant parents John and Susan King. She died November 17, 2004, at age 88. She was predeceased by her husband William J. Don; her parents; and siblings. She is survived by her sons William G. (Joan), and Robert D. (Signe); daughters LaVerne MacNeil (Hugh), Susan Cook (Arthur), Penny Ohlhaver, and Judi Don; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. Mary had a long productive life. She loved her church, music, stitching and crocheting. After retiring, she formed the Village Christian Apartments Kitchen band, a group of retirees who performed for organizations and nursing homes locally. She also volunteered with the Austin Senior Citizens; West Austin Caregivers and Round Rock Caregivers. She served as a Stephen Minister during her 80's. Interested in keeping her mind active, she studied for and received her G.E.D. at age 62. Legally blind, she taught herself Braille in her early 80's. She taught her children to be tough, independent, never give up, stay active and help others where and when possible. Memorial Service will be Sunday, November 21, 2004, at 3:30 P.M. at Cook-Walden / Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Tx. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, or "The Friends of Grace" Fund at Grace Lutheran Church 708 Bluff Dr., Round Rock, Texas, 78664. The family would like to thank the staff at Pflugerville Care Center for their dedicated care and kindness to Mary during her stay there, and for their support and kindness to her family these last few weeks.
