Dorothy Jane Nelson McKay, age 92, of Osage Beach, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri

Dorothy was born December 18, 1928 in Lamesa, Texas the daughter of Hubert Franklin and Ethel Lucille (Kelly) Nelson.

Dorothy took pride in claiming to be a true Texan as she was born and raised in her hometown in which her grandparents were pioneers. She worked for many years as an elementary/special education teacher. After retirement, she traveled the world on cruises and with Airstream caravans. Always a kid at heart, Dorothy enjoyed reading, playing cards (a lot of bridge) and dominoes, drawing, writing, dancing, singing, acting in local plays, spending time outdoors, and observing nature. Dorothy loved her children and grands dearly, sharing with them all her favorite hobbies and teaching them how to stay young and to be independent.

Dorothy is survived by her three children from her first marriage, Stephen Nelson McDowell of Cromberg, California, Katherine "Anne" (McDowell) Scott and her husband Joe Dean Scott of Camdenton, Missouri, and Jane Frances McDowell of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren Aaron Joseph Scott of Springfield, Missouri, Sarah Jane (McDowell) Teixeira of Sparks, Nevada, and Adam David Scott and his wife Staci Erin (Smith) Scott with their children Adina Mae and Eben Adam of Maryland Heights, Missouri.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Vernon McKay; her second husband Bart Anderson; her parents Hubert and Ethel Nelson; and siblings Ethelyn Nelson, Hubert "Sonny" Nelson, Jr., and Katherine (Nelson) Dyer.

Forever a Texan, Dorothy will be laid to rest at Dawson County Cemetery in her hometown of Lamesa, Texas, no services are planned.
