*Obituary
Rita Thomas Evans, 88, left us peacefully but reluctantly, on Sept. 10. She grew up in Texarkana, graduated from Our Lady of the Lake College (San Antonio), and worked with the US State Dept at the Embassy in Spain, and Consulate in Mexicali. In 1951, she married Mason; they raised 4 children in the Brazosport area, where Rita was caterer, organist, and English teacher. She and Mason later opened a travel agency, cherishing the work and travel. They retired to Austin in 2001. When Mason died (2006), Rita moved to assisted living, enjoying care and friendship as she avidly read history and politics. Mass will be at St. Louis Catholic Church, Oct. 14th, 1 pm. The family is deeply grateful both to the remarkable staff at Parmer Woods, especially Glenn Wise and ("Miss") Jo Chata, and to Colleen Flaherty and Ann Hagmann of Hospice Austin.
