*Obituary

Rose Beck Wendelschaefer Rose Beck Wendelschaefer, was born on Dec. 24, 1925 in Nurnberg, Germany and passed away on June 1, 2008 at the home of her daughter, Jean Garlick and her husband, David. She was in their loving care during her long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Frank Wendelschaefer, her grandson, Ryan Garlick of Dallas, her sisters Margie Richart of Vancouver, WA, and Inge Schmidt of Nurnberg, Germany, nephews and extended family across two continents. She had an interesting life, surviving WWII in a city where only 15% of the buildings remained standing. This was the foundation of the determination she would show for the rest of her life in the many challenges she faced. Her most interesting job was working in the Palace of Justice, where the Nurnberg war trials were held, as a secretary for the Jewish Restitution Survivor Organization. She lived in many cities and held many jobs as she became a military wife. In 1960, she proudly received her American citizenship. She was a mother who taught many valuable life lessons that will survive her for generations. Her family wishes to thank the many friends who supported us during this difficult time. It was a time of hardship, sadness, learning and love all rolled into one. Unexpectedly, we learned that cancer can be a terrible illness as well as a great teacher and healer. Words cannot express all of the thanks we feel, but they will remain forever in our hearts. Special thanks go to her loving caretaker, "Sally," an angel in disguise, Dr. Kocs, "tall doc," Dr. Chyle, of the special hugs, their more than wonderful staffs, the caring people at Southwest Home Health and the kind nurses of Hospice Austin. Lastly, a huge hug to her friend and ours, Rita Baughman, who guided her final spiritual passage. A memorial service will be held at Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home, 607 E. Anderson Lane, on Thursday, June 5th at 7:00 p.m. Her wish was to be "where roses can bloom." In honor of this wish her remains will be scattered on two continents and many roses can bloom in her memory. Those wishing, may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Austin.
