Doris Burke Weir, 87 years old, passed quietly at home Monday, June 18, 2012, in Pflugerville, Texas. She was the first child of seven children.
Doris was born in the Republic of Panama January 25, 1925, to Catalina Vyris Blackman and Albert Pinder. Along her life's journey she found lasting love in Herbert Wilbert Weir, married June 10, 1959. Doris started working as a Nursing Assistant for Corozal Hospital, Mental Health Bureau - Pan Canal Zone, USG. There she worked and moved forward in her career touching the lives of servicemen and their families for 32 years, 1946-1978. This was also the place where her life with Herbert began. Also during this time, Doris and Herbert operated a home-based community service that provided first aid care, counsel, and mental health support for those in need. Upon their retirement, Herbert and Doris immigrated to the U.S. in 1980, settling in Brooklyn, New York where they resided for 11 years. Upon the passing of her husband, Doris moved to Pflugerville, Texas, joining her daughter Sheila Wilson and her family in 1991.
There until now, spending her days living and loving, till her voyage to glory.
Predeceased loved ones include her husband Herbert, sister Ivy, mother Catalina, father Albert and her brother Lloyd. She is survived by four siblings: Gwendolyn, Nellie, Telma, and Carmen, children Sheila, Alma, and Courtney Lloyd, scores of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
