A graveside service for Lorraine "Cookie" Sanov Felsen, 82, of Longview will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Kilgore City Cemetery, 200 Memorial St., Kilgore, with Rabbi Neal Katz officiating. Arrangements are with Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler.
Lorraine "Cookie" Sanov Felsen passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in Longview. Cookie was born October 17, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Sam and Grace Sanov.
Cookie moved with her family to Gladewater at an early age where she grew up. She graduated from Gladewater High School in 1950, played the Alto Saxophone in the marching band and was in the National Honor Society. Cookie graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1954 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and D Phi E sorority. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
Cookie was Vice President of Greggton Pipe and Steel for 35 years. With a heart to serve, she volunteered at the Longview Cancer Center, Meals on Wheels and Hospice. She also served on the board of the League of Women Voters, and worked with the Interfaith Group of Longview. Cookie also graduated from the Longview Police Academy.
Cookie enjoyed watching football and baseball games on television. She was an avid fan of tennis; not only watching it on television but going to see top seeded players, play their matches in Dallas for several years. Cookie enjoyed bowling and was a captain on several bowling leagues and received many trophies. She enjoyed going to the movies and to the Dallas Summer Musicals.
Cookie is survived by her loving family including her beloved daughter, Phyllis Miriam Felsen of Austin; beloved son, Bernard David Felsen; granddaughters, Natalie Ann and Emily Claire, all of El Paso; plus many extended friends.
The family would like to thank Hawkins Creek Assisted Living and Pine Tree Lodge and Nursing Center.
