Funeral services will be in the First Baptist Church in Vernon for Rev. M.L. Porter, 72, who died following a six month illness.
Rev. Fred Porter, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Breckenridge will officiate assisted by the pastor of First Baptist Church in Vernon, Rev. Rick Forrester.
Burial in Eastview cemetery.
He married Rosa Lee Crawford on 12 June 1932 in Wellington, Texas.
He came to Vernon in 1949 from Tillman Co., Oklahoma.
A retired Baptist pastor, he was a member of the Vernon Masonic Lodge and was active in nursing home ministries the past few years.
Survivors: wife; son - Rev. Fred Porter of Breckenridge; three daughters - Dorothy Harman, Lawanda Bond, Marlene Marshall; three brothers - Hollis, J.K. and R.L.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Rosa Lee "Rose" Porter of Elk Grove died August 27, 2003.
Preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Porter and a son, Fred Porter. Loving mother of Lawanda Bond of Hemet, Dorothy Hardman (John) of Crescent City and Myrlene Marshall (Chuck) of Elk Grove. Devoted grandmother of Lanelle, Elaine, Tom, Kathleen, Pam, Rod, Kim, Pete, Bryan, Debbie and Steve. Also survived by 19 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 1 brother and 3 sisters. A resident of Elk Grove for 3 years. A native of Texas, aged 89 years.
