Funeral services for Alice Mae Bean, 87, Overton, will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1, at Zion Baptist Church, with Reverend Tyrone Gee officiating. Burial will be in Overton City Cemetery under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bean died Friday, November 23, 2007 at her residence. She was born December 18, 1919 in Overton to the late Lafayette and Annie Lee Cheeseburg Smith. She moved to California in 1944, and returned to Overton in 1987. While in California, she met and married her soul mate, Luther Bean.
Mrs. Bean was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandma. Early in life she joined Zion Baptist Church and was baptized. She was an active and faithful member until her health failed her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Bean, a grandson, DeMarrea Chappell, a brother, Harvey Lee Smith, and two sisters, Algerita Wiley and Nelwyn Adams.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Linda Butler-Bean of Oakland, California; a daughter and son-in-law, Yolanda and Raymond Chappell of Overton; six grandchildren, Emon Sherouse, Raymond Chappell, Nekia Chappell, Ronald Bean-Muhammad, and Alesia Shavazz; sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kenson Tave, Kenneth Tave, Preston Hawkins, Jr., Preston Hawkins, Sr., Elijah Bagley, Jr., and Devin Mayfield.
