STRATFORD - Clayton Jacob Johnson, 16, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in Dumas.
Clayton was born Sept. 24, 1990, in Amarillo. He was a junior at Stratford High School, where he played basketball and was a freshman on the 2005 State Champion football team. Clayton showed steers and heifers for nine years. Highlights were a division champion heifer at Denver National Western and a breed champion Maine steer at San Antonio.
Since he was 9 years old, he wanted to go to A & M to be a vet. His love for John Deere tractors, Hummers and diesel pickups led his family to believe he would make a good "Gear Head." He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Stratford.
He was preceded in death by his granddaddy, "Jake" Jacob King.
Survivors include his parents, Steve and Brenda Johnson; a sister, Bethany Johnson of Whittier, Calif.; a brother, Jordan Johnson of Stratford; his maternal grandmother, Ruth King of Hereford; his paternal grandparents, Joe and Helen Johnson of Ankeney, Iowa; his beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and "Steer Show" family; and his beloved dog, Hank.
