Mrs. Carlos Spears
Dies Unexpectedly; Is Buried Tuesday

Mrs. Carlos Spears, resident for several years of Erath County died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1943, at 7:30 o'clock at the Gorman hospital. She had been ill and in the hospital for about four weeks but was thought to be improving until late Saturday evening when she died unexpectedly.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Barbee cemetery near Dublin. Max R. Crumley, minister of the Graham Street Church of Christ of Stephenville officiated. A number of relatives and friends attended and a large and beautiful floral offering was received. Harrell-Higginbotham Funeral Home of Dublin had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were her brothers-in-law E. M. McAlister, Earl Davidson, Willie Landes, Ben Cofer and Walter Barbee. Interment was in the Barbee cemetery.

Mrs. Lillian Ellen Spears was born July 24, 1897 at Eastland, the daughter of W. S. Fuller and Susan Lee Fuller. She came to Erath county with her parents when a small child, the family settling near Comanche. She was married there Sept. 9, 1914, to Carlos Spears. Mrs. Spears became a member of the Church of Christ ten years ago. She was a loyal church member and a devoted mother. Having nursed her mother through a long illness, after her death she had been nursing her mother-in-law, Mrs. Belle Davidson who has been ill for several years.

Mrs. Spears is survived by her husband, Carlos Spears of Edna Hill; two children, Mrs. Naomi Brooks, Stephenville; Donald C. Spears who is now serving with the United States Army in Africa; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Donald C. Spears of Dublin, the former Inez Whitefield. She is also survived by three grandchildren; her father, W. S. Fuller; two sisters, Mrs. E. M. McAlister and Mrs. Bob Day of Stephenville, and two brothers, P. K. Fuller, Stephenville and C. 0. Fuller of Midland.
