Born in Georgia in Nov. of 1847, Samuel Franklin Ray was the son of Joseph F. Ray and Martha Jane Honeycutt. Samuel married Martha Lewis "Mackie" Rives Nov. 23, 1871 in Bibb Co., AL. and the couple moved to Texas in 1875. They were farmers in the San Antonio area until being admitted to the Confederate Home for Civil War veterans in 1927. Samuel died at the Confederate Home Apr. 27, 1930. Husband and wife are buried beside one another in Texas State Cemetery.
