*Obituary

Edith Mae Enbey passed away from her earthly life into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, Texas. She was blessed with 91 years of life.

Edith was born on May 13, 1919, in Lufkin, Texas, where she lived until she was married. Along with her husband, Dwight, she relocated to Galveston, Texas where they lived raising their three sons and daughter.

Before his passing, she and Dwight were blessed with 62-1/2 years of what was a wonderful marriage. After her husband passed away, Edit continued living on Galveston Island.

Edith was a very kind, compassionate, loving and caring wife, mother and friend to all those who knew her. Besides her deep love for her family, her Lord and her friends, Edith loved reading and writing poetry the best, with one of her poems even winning a prize in a poetry contest. Another favorite pastime that Edith enjoyed was when she was working crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes, playing games with family and friends, especially Scrabble and "Train". She also liked watching sports, especially the Astros, golf and the Tour de France Bicycle Race. Edith also enjoyed all kinds of crafts, including crocheting and ceramics.

Edith was very active in her church, Bible Baptist, teaching Sunday School for many years, even into her late 80's, and helping out at church wherever there was a need. Through the years, for her dedicated service and tireless work, she was honored with many awards of recognition, one of which was "Mother of the Year" which she very humbly accepted. Even when her health prevented her from physically helping, she continued to be a strong prayer partner for her church family and others. Edith enjoyed singing all the wonderful church hymns. Her favorite song was "One Day At A Time", her favorite Bible verse was "Psalms 121" and her favorite book of the Bible was "Jude". Edith and Dwight were recognized for 50 years of marriage by their church members, family and friends with a surprise 50th anniversary party after a Wednesday night service that just happened to fall on their wedding anniversary.

Edith also worked for many years with Hallmark Cards at the store located in the old Galvez Mall. After that, she worked several years in the gift shop at the Flagship Hotel where she not only helped visitors with things in the gift shop, but did her best to answer their questions about the Island, and explained to some that wanted to know when "high tide" was, that it didn't mean the water would come over the seawall. When she no longer worked at the Flagship's gift shop, she was asked and worked again for Hallmark Cards at Wal Mart. She always enjoyed talking to all the people she met, helping them wherever and however she could.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight O. Enbey, Sr., son Marvin Lee Enbey, and granddaughter, Kimberly Enbey. She is survived by son, Dwight O. Enbey, Jr., and wife Irene, from Madisonville, Texas, son, Kenneth W. Enbey and wife, Connie of Bayou Vista, Texas; daughter, Judy Enbey of Texas City, Texas, 3 grandchildren, Bryan Enbey of Alvin, Texas, Amber Rewis of Lady Lake, Florida and Erik Enbey of Katy, Texas, 2 step-granddaughters, Susan Widmer of Bayou Vista and Schel Heydenburg of Westland, Michigan, 1 great-grandchild, David Enbey and 1 step-great-grandchild, Evelina Littlefield, along with numerous other relatives, her prayer partners, Grace Herod and Nita Northcutt and the other families of Bible Baptist Church, and many friends. Edith will be very sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Pallbearers will be Larry Lane, Les Vargas, Christian Vargas, Austin Vargas, Fred Weaver and Tim York. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rudy Sanchez and Claud Davidson.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010, at J.
