R.H. Norton Dies at Home

Reuben Harrison Norton, pioneer Amarilloan, died at his home, 716 Pierce Street, at 8:50 o'clock this morning. He had been in poor health for several years.

Mr. Norton came to Amarillo from Quanah in 1896 and purchased a wholesale grocery company. Two years later he sold the firm to Nobles Brothers and moved to Hereford.

Later he moved to Kansas City and then to Artesia, N.M., where he was in the cattle business. He returned to Amarillo in 1938.

Mr. Norton was a charter member of the Panhandle Hereford Breeders Association and was a member of the Western Cowpunchers Association.

He was an organizer and charter member of the First Christian Church of Hereford. Since returning to Amarillo he has been a member of the First Christian Church here.

Surviving him are three sons, Claude O. Norton of Goldthwaite, E.H. Norton of Hereford and H.D. Norton of Joplin, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. J.E. Urschel of Mexia, Mrs. Una Hutcheon of Amarillo and Miss Alma Norton of Amarillo; two sisters, Mrs. Lily Goodwin of Breckenridge and Mrs. Fay Abbott of Ventura, Cal..; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the First Christian Church. Graveside services will be held at the Hereford Cemetery at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

The body is in state at the Griggs Funeral Chapel.
