When Millard Augustus Gillis was born on January 27, 1909, in Harrold, Texas, his father, Edward, was 30 and his mother, Lyda, was 23. He married Myrtice G Cooper on September 17, 1933, in Wilbarger, Texas. They had one child during their marriage. He died on July 18, 1985, in his hometown at the age of 76, and was buried in Vernon, Texas.
