When Dorothy Mae Crawford was born on September 17, 1915, in Texas, her father, George, was 27, and her mother, Beatrice, was 24. She had one son and one daughter with Otto Julius Christian Obenhaus. She died on April 17, 2009, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 93, and was buried in Vernon, Texas.

Former longtime Vernon resident Dorothy Obenhaus, 93, was called to the Lord April 17, 2009, from her home in Houston. She rejoins her beloved Otto Obenhaus Jr., husband of nearly 60 years who passed away in 1997.

Left behind are son Otto Obenhaus III of Vernon; daughter and son by heart, George Ann and Larry Wagner of Houston; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by loving parents, Beatrice Lehr and George Lafayette Crawford of Vernon; and cherished sister, Winnie Dee Ward of Chillicothe.

Graduated from Vernon High School and studied business at West Texas State, worked for Judge Rouse, the Wilbarger County Tax Office, Coca-Cola and did contract tax work. She assisted Otto with his farming and managed the couple's store, Obenhaus Furniture.

Frequent volunteer, church work, 4-H, charity drives, reunions, Chamber of Commerce, the community concert series and served the women's club as a past president. She moved to Houston in 2000.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, April 22, at 10 a.m. at Saint Paul Lutheran by Rev. Neuberger. Services under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home, Vernon.
