DENVER CITY — Services for Jerry M. Gordy, 75, of Denver City, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Denver City with the Rev. Randy Butler officiating.

Burial will be in Denver City Memorial Park under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole. He died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2663 in Denver City.

He was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Palo Pinto. He married Genevieve Petty on May 9, 1950, in Clovis, N.M. He worked for the county landfill for 15 years and was a World War II veteran.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and an active member of the Denver City Senior Citizens.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Quanah Joe Gordy of Odessa; one daughter, Debra Jean Stevens of Denver City; one brother, Robert Gordy of Pampa; two sisters, Lucille Moore of Amarillo and Bernice Cocharan or Morilton, Ark.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Denver City- Funeral services for Genevieve Gordy, age 87 of Denver City, Texas will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Pastor Kyle Streun officiating and Pastor Harry Pittam assisting. Private burial will follow at Denver City Memorial Park. All services are under the direction of Boyer Memorial Chapel in association with Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Mrs. Gordy was born May 17, 1931 in Mountain View, Arkansas to Iva (Dodson) and Vernon Alford Petty. She married Jerry M. Gordy on May 5, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. She was a Baptist. They were blessed with their son, Quanah Joe on March 10, 1951, followed by their daughter, Debra Jean on June 1, 1955. Mrs. Gordy's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She worked as a nurse's aide for many years and had become known to some as "Sunshine." Genevieve had always hoped to continue her education in nursing.

Genevieve loved playing bingo at the senior center where they called her "Bingo Queen;" even after she moved to the nursing home she continued to beat everyone in dominos, checkers and any game she played.

Genevieve Gordy went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 30, 2018 while at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jerry Gordy in 2003; and two brothers, Donald Gene Petty and Vernon Alfred Petty. She is survived by, one son, Quanah Joe Gordy and wife Jo Ann of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Debi Stevens and husband Dallas of Lubbock, Texas; three grandsons, Randy Scroggins and wife Heather of Arlington, Texas; Dallas Stevens III and wife Kacey of Lubbock, Texas; Daniel Stevens and wife Katrina of Lubbock, Texas; one granddaughter, Jennifer Priest and husband Will of Colleyville, Texas; one niece, "daughter" Virnell " Little Sis" Locker and husband Lan of Graham, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
