G.T. (Jim) Barnett, 87, of Chillicothe, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, in Chillicothe. Graveside services Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Chillicothe Cemetery with the Rev. Wallace Clay officiating. Interment under the direction of Smith Chapel in Chillicothe.

He was born Dec. 16, 1926, just south of Chillicothe, a son of the late Roy T. and Augusta Bogard Barnett. He married Darlene Lutz on Sept. 24, 1960, in Vernon. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Barnett was a custom harvester and farmer all his life and also was employed as a school bus driver. Barnett served on the Farmers Coop Board, Federal Land Bank, Hardeman County Appraisal District and Heritage Foundation. He enjoyed playing the guitar and playing in bands. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Chillicothe.

He was preceded in death by a brother, R.T. Barnett Jr.

Survivors include his wife, of Chillicothe; a son, Jimmy Barnett of Chillicothe; a daughter, Sherry Coffman of Lubbock; a brother, David Barnett of Jasper; three sisters, Gerri Bell of Crowell, JoAnn White of Durby, Kan., and Margaret Brewer of Richardson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
