Oscar Winnfield Heddins was the 6th of ten children born to James ("Jim") & Clarinda ("Clara") (Brewster/Bruster) Heddins. He was born on their family land in the Pleasant Ridge community of southern Van Zandt County, Texas. Oscar was named after his uncle Oscar Heddins of Charleston, Illinois.
Oscar grew up as a farmer and as a young adult continued to farm in Van Zandt County. After his parents died, Oscar appears to have lived with his oldest sister, Elmira (Heddins) Hall and her two children. Oscar appears in the 1890-91 Van Zandt County school roster as a guardian for his niece, J. A. Hall. Oscar never married.
Oscar shows up in the Van Zandt county tax records consistently until 1896 when he suddenly disappeared, and he is no where to be found on any subsequent records, so it is believed that he died between 1896 and 1900, being 37 to 41 years old.
It is not known for certain if Oscar was buried at the Heddins family cemetery in northern Henderson County, but it is highly likely.
