Thomas Jeffris HEDDINS

Heddins Family Cemetery
Henderson County,
Texas

August 5, 1852 - December 15, 1872

Thomas Jeffris Heddins was the second child & oldest son born to James ("Jim") & Clarinda ("Clara") (Brewster) Heddins just outside of Charleston, Illinois. Tom was named after his maternal grandparents, Thomas & Martha (Jeffris) Brewster.

Tom's family moved south to Van Zandt County, Texas when he was a small child, homesteading on 160 acres of land in the Pleasant Ridge community. When Tom was about 18 years old their family bought land a few miles away in northern Henderson County, just south of the Van Zandt County line.

Tragedy struck the Heddins household when Thomas and his younger sister, Drucilla, died two days apart in mid-December 1872. Thomas was only 20 years old. Although there is no marker to identify his grave, it is believed that he and his sister were buried on their land where about nine months later their own mother was to be buried upon her untimely death.
