SPEARMAN - Hazel Sanders Loftin, 98, died Wednesday, May 16, 1990.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Pogue, a former pastor, and the Rev. Bill Miller, pastor of Union Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Holt Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

Mrs. Loftin was born and reared in Iola. She married Adolphus Franklin Loftin in 1910 at Iola. He died in 1954. She attended San Marcos College, Baylor University and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1924 with a degree in music. Her husband was a Baptist minister and they had pastored several churches before they moved to Spearman in 1933. They served the First Baptist Church until 1938. She taught Sunday school and played piano for worship service. She was active in the Women's Missionary Union. She taught piano for many years, beginning in 1937. They returned to Spearman in 1950 to retire.

Mrs. Loftin was past president of the Spearman Music Club and of the Dahlia Flower Club. She was named Woman of the Year in 1973 by the flower club. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Rebekah Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Oscilee Cooksey.

Survivors include a daughter, Wren Holt of Spearman, a son, Paul Loftin of Austin, a brother, the Rev. Norman Sanders of Cuero, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

The family requests that flowers be sent or memorials be made to Hansford Manor.
